Brilliant. I admit I put off watching this. It sat staring at me from its netflix dvd sleeve for weeks because I didn’t want to think about bummer-things-I-already-know in my free-time. Things like how much it can suck to be a pre-teen girl and how much the world/media/life can crush a spirit before its even full-grown.
I shouldn’t have waited.
There are more than enough positive (and even hilarious!) moments in this movie to make up for the downer facts-of-life. And don’t forget hope. Hope and pure joy. It’s a great movie. Well worth the time and you’ll have a smile on your face and the urge grab the nearest microphone and start screaming “Are you ready to ROCK!” when it’s over.
Girls Rock! The movie: “Battling over band names, lyrical intent, microphone time, musical direction, and loose ideas of artistic merit (Amelia is a child who treasures her noise), these budding rock stars are a bewitching bundle of personalities who feel the triumph of every successfully landed riff and the familiar crush of social exclusion. It’s a captivating five days inside the core of this exceptional outlet for creativity and expression; a film not just to be commended and enjoyed, but a remarkable camp that should be a requirement for every teen girl out there in dire need of empowerment and focus.”– Brian Orndorf
