gratitude – Green

A few things making me happy (as part of my life list  ongoing gratitude journal):

back porch green
This leaf was lit from behind by mid-afternoon sun streaming into the porch. I sat there and tried to imagine experiencing that green grid from the bug's perspective.

old fav - back again
I'm so happy that fall is almost here. the weather is starting to be cool enough in the mornings for hot tea, one of my favorite ways to wake up.
figs
Figs remind me of the house where I grew up. There was a giant fig tree in the back yard, toward the end of the time my parents lived here, and eating fresh figs warm from the sun is a favorite memory.
Spaghetti Carbonara
Bacon and eggs and pasta? How have I been missing out on this for so long? I recently made spaghetti carbonara for the first time ever and it was so very good. I love almost anything bacon related, but this is a top 10 bacon dish, for sure.
making pesto
Finally, I've learned how to keep basil going all summer: 1) cut it back so much you feel like you are about to kill it, 2) every time you use it save a sprig to root and plant to keep fresh plants going and 3) use it all the time, don't hoard it. I love burying my face in a pile of fresh-cut basil as I carry it into the house to use.
back to basics
Sometimes I forget how good a simple meal like pinto beans and cornbread can be. It's nice to be reminded.
my what big ears you have
Surprises are fun.
flowers
The flowers you don't think of as flowers are beautiful, too. These are basil (purple) and chive (white) flowers. I wonder if they are edible.
radish leaf
Soaking up all the green I can, as fall heads our way. Nature has so many cool shapes.
